Homemade Marble Cake

Homemade Marble Cake a.k.a Zebra Cake

Previously, I made a castella zebra cake. This time I made marble cake. Actually they can be called interchangeably, but for me, it is a marble cake only if it was made from butter cake base. If other cake base, then we can called it zebra since its colour resembles the zebra.

This marble cake was made from butter cake base to create that oily yet crumbly texture. It is just perfect, not too oily yet not too crumbly, and the top is also quite crispy πŸ˜€

To be honest it still does not resembles some of the best marble cake sold outside which has its own fragrance in my opinion. But still I could call this a success since everyone who tried gives me a good feedback πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰

This time the tips is just a general tips which is about baking timing. Make sure to not over bake it otherwise it will be dry.

What frosting will be nice for this type of cake? Well, let's talk about it in another post.

Homemade Rilakkuma Swiss Roll

Homemade Rilakkuma Swiss Roll 🐻

Took a very long time to draw this cos its my first time making this but worth it 😍😍

If you follow from my previous post about the different between Indonesian and Japanese roll cake, you will know that this is what I mean by Japanese roll cake (which is actually called swiss roll).

Swiss roll is that cake which use lots of egg whites compare to the yolk. That's why the colour is not as yellow as the previous one, but the taste is also very delicious. It has that soft spongy texture and what is unique about this cake is that you can draw some cartoon character on it.

Some tips for drawing it is that make sure to bake it just for 30 seconds after each drawings so that it could perfectly peeled off in the end. Alternatively, you can freeze it after each drawings, but please be careful not to freeze it too long. From my experience, it didn't peel off of the baking paper because it was frost on the paper and not combined into the cake.

So now that you know some tips to draw on the swiss roll, how about drawing The Avengers / Gudetama / any other cartoon characters you like? For another picture, I will post it next time I make the swiss roll.

Homemade Roll Cake with Strawberry and cheese fillings (λ‘€ 케이크)

Homemade Indonesian Roll Cake (Bolu Gulung) with strawberry and cheese fillingsπŸ˜ƒ

Roll Cake is absolutely their name. As it is made by rolling it to become in such a shape.
For your information, what makes Indonesian and Japanese roll cake different is that usually the Japanese style roll cake is made with higher proportion of egg whites (like chiffon cake), whereas Indonesian style roll cake uses a lot of egg yolk. I like both cakes, but for this post I made the one with more yolks.

Although it does not use a lot of egg whites but it still has a soft texture. I like how it taste like soft and solid (or I would say that it is "padet" in Indonesian language πŸ˜… cos it is not dense but have that solid texture). It also use quite a lot of butter so your hand will be oily after eating this. But trust me, it worth the taste.

very soft and sweetπŸ’›

For me, what I really like about this cake besides the texture is the fillings 🀭 and the best thing for making homemade roll cake is that you can fill it with anything you like

Since I really really really love cheese, I put a lot of it inside 🀭. But still a roll cake wouldn't be a roll cake if it has no strawberry jam , so here it is πŸ“πŸ“

The original Bolu Gulung or Indonesian Roll Cake~~↓↓↓

For your information that the yellow colour is because of the egg yolk, no preservatives were used for this cake.

TIPS: make sure that u use a lot of yolks to make that flexible texture, otherwise it will break you roll it. Second, don't roll it directly after baking cos the top will stick to the towel or baking paper when you roll it after baking. Third, don't wait for too long, otherwise it will break as well. As you can see here timing is very crucial in baking 😊

This is just the start of my roll cake journey. The tips on drawing a cartoon character will be discuss in another time. Hope this is useful ~

Homemade Western Pancake (νŒ¬μΌ€μ΄ν¬)

Homemade Pancake with butter and caramel syrup♡

This time I won't say much cos I think the pictures could say for itself
This pancake was made with a 1:2 proportion of buttermilk and flour.
For me, a perfect pancake should have the flavour of buttermilk, topped with butter and maple syrup. ⬇️⬇️

So, how about making the super-thick pancake which is so Instagram-worthy? Well, I will leave it for another post.

Homemade Red Velvet Cake λ ˆλ“œλ²¨λ²³ 케이크

Homemade Red Velvet Cake from Beetroot λ ˆλ“œλ²¨λ²³ 케이크

And finally......YAAAYYY !! I made it!!
(If you follow on my post and read the previous stories about brown velvet, you will know what it means)

For your information this is my second experiment of making red velvet 😁 and I am so glad to admit itπŸ˜™ (cos usually I have to try a recipe many times until it successful πŸ˜“πŸ˜¬)
But it doesn't matter really matter. Cos I still made it in the end and I believe that success takes effort (#qotd 😁)

Important for you to know that Red Velvet Cake actually provides health benefits because this red velvet was made from pure beetroot fruit (which gives those health benefits).

TIPS: First, although you use the beetroot fruit, still add some food colouring otherwise it will end up becoming brown velvet. Second, if you have excess cake base, use it for decoration on top by refining it through a sieve.

Here are some of the pictures of my homemade red velvet ⇊⇊

Note: I a lot of similar pictures cos I really don't know which one looks nicer THEHE (pardon my amateur photography skillsπŸ˜‰)

If you're thinking about how to make it more attractive, I will try to discuss more on the decoration for red velvet another time. Also, I will try to combine other fillings that would be good for the red velvet base.

Homemade Zebra Castella Cake

Soft Zebra Cake (Marble Cake)

This was inspired by Japanese style Castella cake and local style marble cake. They actually complement each other. Castella is like the foundation and marble as decoration.

I made this because my mom likes marble cake and she asked me to make one. But, I know that she don't want a cake to be too oily (which is the case for most marble cake). That's why I searched for a marble cake that was not made by butter-cake base.

As you might have known that castella cake is very soft due to its high proportion of egg whites. So, this cake is actually very recommended to be make.

Here are some pictures for the freshly baked marble castella cake.

So then what is the difference between zebra cake and marble cake? Well, I will leave it for the next post. πŸ˜‰

Homemade Brown Velvet

Homemade Brown Velvet made from pure beetroot

(some tips for top decoration)

You might be wondering why I made this brown velvet instead of red velvet....Well, so this is the reason.

I am actually a red velvet lover and was trying to make red velvet. It started when I tried it in one of the bakery which sold red velvet with cream cheese frosting and fully covered by crunched peanut on the outside. It was nice.....until I started to researching about Red Velvet cake history  (since I love it so much πŸ˜…) and also its composition.. But then I realised that what I have been eating is a fake red velvet (oops, it doesn't mean not edible or something). I called it fake just because usually in some cake shop they just use red food colouring in the sponge cake so it becomes red, yes just red colour.

Since that time I was very curious about how the real red velvet tastes like, so I searched about it further and found a bakery which they said has the best Red Velvet in town...
I called it ORIGINAL RED VELVET because it made from beetroot (although using some red food colouring as well)....

When I firstly tried it.. I can feel that it really is the best red velvetπŸ˜†πŸ˜† (even the smiley face can't describe my happiness for finding my perfect match :P)

It was the the cream cheese that has made me fall in love at the first time. But, knowing that it's texture is perfectly dense and moist make me even fall in love with that cake... I like it in every bite and it feels so addicting because of the dense yet moist texture (unlike the normal sponge cake)

And finally...I decided to try out making the original Red Velvet πŸ’ƒ
But......my first time experiment turns out to be.......

TADAAA~ a brown velvet πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…
Well..I could admit that it was due to my stubbornness...I want to avoid using food colouring at all (for health reason LOL) but I realised that even though the beet root is very red but still you need that red food colouring to make it red.

Before it was baked it was actually already red pale (almost like soft purple colour), but I insist on not using any food colouring and never know that it will become brown 🀭🀭

But I never regret because the taste is what matter most. The cheese proportion and the texture was perfect like what I really wanted...Here are some pictures..

Tips: For decoration on top its neither crunched peanut nor a powder. It was the cake itself that I refined through a sieve.

This was just the start of my experiment with beetroot. I will continue on tips for making red velvet cake in another post.

Homemade Shiny Crust Brownies

Homemade Shiny Crust Brownies

(some tips and knowledge about brownies)

Add caption

There is one best brownies I have ever tried in my life (in my opinion) and it is the brownies made by Prima Rasa in Bandung. It is perfectly sweet and chocolaty, soft on the inside with a perfect crunch on the top. Also, it has to be shining on the top which is what makes it even more attractive😍😍

But.....It was so sad that I can't eat it whenever I want cos it takes a while to go there from the city where I live. There was one time when I want to eat it so badly,...and so I decided to create my own Prima Rasa brownies πŸ˜†

First, second, third time was a failure cos it was either too sweet, too bitter and no shining crust...
I was actually confused when looking for the recipe because there are two types of brownies: Cakey and Fudgy. I tried every recipe that seems looks like Prima Rasa, and later realised that it is a fudge-type brownies.

And finally I made my perfect brownies (in my opinionπŸ˜…), but my mom also like it tho'
she also said that it tastes like the Prima Rasa πŸ˜† The tips are.....↓↓↓

Here are some tips to make this Shiny Crust Brownies. First, to make the shining crust, it is very important that you measure the sugar accurately as it's role is to make that crust on top. Second, since we use quite a lot of sugar to make the crust appear, you may want to adjust the recipe to use some dark chocolate instead of everything milk chocolate, so that it doesn't become overly sweet. Also, make sure to set timer otherwise it will be dry and not soft on the inside if over baked.

Now how to make it party-worthy? Well, that's another blog post for another time 😁😁
