Homemade Puppy Buttercream Cake

I have been wanting to make puppy buttercream cake but haven't got the chance to do so.
Finally I did it!!! Its holiday, no exam, got free time πŸ˜… so I made a special birthday cake to celebrate my mom's birthday😁😁

since I'm still an amateur, it took me around 5 hours to finish the whole cake πŸ˜‚ but it took only 5 minutes to cut and finish the whole cakes😱
The hardest part was to keep the buttercream on shape..so I have to put it back in the fridge each time after decorating for a while... I haven't found the perfect recipe for long-lasting buttercream I guess, but still so happy to actually made this cake πŸ™†

The tips.....just make sure to put it in the fridge so that the buttercream stays in shape. For the piping, it really just about the practice. The more you practice the better the shape and of course the faster you can make it 😁

Ciel Patisserie

....I have never been curious about lemon meringue tart until my friend express how much she loves the tartπŸ’

After doing a little research about the tart,
I decided to visit one of the best place for the tart (according to google)😁

This humble cake shop is located quite far from the central, which is in 124 Hougang Ave 1, #01-1444. To be honest, I never thought that it is actually located in the HDB building with a quiet environment. But, it has a simple and nice exterior like a usual cafe.

The moment you come closer, you will be attracted to go in as those cakes in display are calling you through that big glass  πŸ‘€πŸ‘€

Even though it can be considered as a small patisserie shop since they only have some tables (6 inside and 2-3 outside), but they sell quite variety of cakes.

When I reached there it's already 7 pm, so I didn't manage to take a picture of all the cakes. But, thankfully there remains 2 lemon meringue tart. Since I have come all the way there for it.....πŸ˜€

But first let's look at the interior.....

The simple frame decoration on the wall....

Two wooden tables inside....

And some table with a marble pattern

I personally like to eat cake in such cafe with a simple design accompanied by classical music inside. It is also suitable for studying as it is quiet and not crowded. Most of the customers came to buy the cake and take away, not eating inside.

Now let's talk about the cake...

It appearance is simple and pretty since it has those golden meringue on top. As I mentioned earlier, this is my first time trying lemon meringue tart. As you might have wondered, this tart belongs to those tart with stiff crust. So just bite it and don't tried to break it using the fork or spoon like what I did πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

The lemon paste inside has a very soft texture and strong flavour. Accompanied by the perfect level of sweetness of the meringue and a crunchy tart crust, I think this tart deserves 7/10.

Homemade Klepon Cake

Klepon is one of the best traditional cake in Indonesia. It was originally made from glutinous rice flour which is shaped like a ball. I have never been able to forget them ever since I tried those in Bali for the first time. With a soft skin and a runny fillings, it can suddenly spurt out of your mouth when you bite it, which I feel as the best part of eating this balls 😍😍
The sweet and runny palm sugar on the inside, covered with some grated coconut makes this ball have an especially good taste.

So with those ingredients in mind, there have been so many innovation out there. After I tried the cake and look at their layer. I decided to make this unique cake. Even though the palm sugar is very sweet but when you eat this cake as a whole, it actually complements each other.

I used a soft Pandan cake base to make this cake (can use sponge/castella) which is similar to a soft skin of the Klepon ball. Then, each of the cake layer will be covered with grated coconut. This is repeated until the cake finished, and also topped with a lot of dried grated coconut.

Some tips is to mix the palm sugar mixture with the dried grated coconut so it doesn't make the cake in between become soggy. Also, you may use fresh grated coconut instead of the dried one. I actually also used fresh grated coconut as it is very hard to find the dried coconut in Indonesia.

So..here it is...the final looks of the klepon cake

It tastes so good (they said) but I didn't manage to give you a clear look on the inside. Cos I personally feel it doesn't looks so good on the inside. It could be that the cake is too soft so it does not really hold its shape.

But still I posted this cos its a success as long as the taste is good rite? πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹

All in all this is just the beginning... I'll try again another time and let you know the result πŸ˜„πŸ˜€

Homemade Nutella Stuffed Cupcake

For this cupcake, I tried the recipe from cupcake Jemma's recipe in youtube. The results are satisfying. Though a bit oily just right from the oven, but after it cools down, it's not oily.

The flavour comes out nicely. The texture is also perfect as it is soft and moist, yet not oily.
I also tried out another buttercream recipe for this cupcake. At first, I wanted to make a rose out of this buttercream, but this recipe failed to make those shape. It melted so quickly, so I decided to shape the flower directly on top of the cupcake.
...
and I feel that the results were not that bad, though not so neat. (FYI I'm still an amateur 😁)

Here are some pictures of LaRose's Nutella Cupcakes with homemade buttercream

I asked two friends to give ratings for my cupcake. One of them gave 7/10 and the other gave 8/10.

The tips of making a nice cupcake is to use butter rather than margarine, cos it will make it more oily.

Since it is very useful for decorating cakes, for the next posts, I will try out another buttercream recipe that doesn't melt quickly 😊

P.S. Cafe (Harding Road) - Sticky Date Pudding

Sticky Date Pudding with Toffee Sauce

P.S. Cafe is one of the best glasshouse cafe in Singapore. Since it is located away from the city and surrounded by a real garden, P.S. Cafe at Harding Road offers a very relaxing ambiance. Also, a nice background to take an Insta-worthy picture 😜

P.S. Cafe is very popular for its shoestring fries and double chocolate blackout cake and sticky date pudding with toffee sauce. I didn't try their fries since I was just curious to try out their signature cake, (but I did try the egg benedict and it's also good)
so here are the pictures....

Double Chocolate Blackout Cake ($16)

Sticky Date Pudding with Toffee Sauce ($$15)

At first I thought a sticky date pudding is "a pudding", but surprisingly its not a pudding at all. It is a cake poured with a toffee sauce and topped with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. The cake is not sweet, not so light but also not dense. The toffee sauce has a similar taste with caramel, but not too sweet and just perfect to be eaten with the cake. This is my first time trying out sticky date pudding but I already fell in love into it😍 until I feel like wanna try to make it really soon!!!

For the chocolate cake, it was also poured with a sauce, which is a chocolate sauce. But, I feel that the chocolate cake is really just like a normal chocolate cake. The chocolate frosting has a very rich chocolate flavour, the cake is light enough...but you'll feel not good after eating too much of it.

I ask the opinion from two of my friends and overall the sticky date pudding got 2 vote whereas the double chocolate blackout got 1 vote, so sticky date is the winner πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

So, as always I'll give points to both cakes based on my opinion.
- Sticky Date Pudding 9/10
- Double Chocolate Blackout Cake 5/10

Fluff Bakery - Best Speculoos Cupcake in Singapore

I have never been a fan of cupcake until I went to Fluff Bakery. It is a small bakery located in Jalan Pisang. Written on a chalkboard, their menu varies from the normal flavour like chocolate brownies until the  local flavor like ondeh-ondeh and a unique flavour like speculoos cookie.

Started out as a cupcake business, they have now expand into selling cakes as well.

Since I am not a fan of cupcake, but still curious about their taste. So, I bought a box of 2 cupcakes. They are the Speculoos Cheesecake Graham Crumbs and Chocolate Malt Fudge Brownie.

Upon trying their Speculoos cheesecake flavour, I realize the goodness of cupcake. Unlike the usual cupcake which is very oily with unflavoured frosting, Fluff Bakery's cupcake is not oily at all and their cream frosting on top complete the cupcake perfectly 😍

As their name suggest, the cupcake is also very fluffy and full of flavour. Also, it has a little filling of cheesecake inside which make the cupcake taste even more delicious.
It is not too sweet and just perfect. A thumbs up for the Speculoos Cheesecake CupcakeπŸ‘

Another one is the chocolate malt brownie. With a bittersweet cream frosting, it balanced the sweetness of the chocolate fillings and the fudge brownie. However, I personally feel that the fillings is too sweet. But it would be perfect for someone who like sweet things.

I personally think their cream frosting and cupcake base is much better than normal cupcakes, because the cream is flavoured and cupcake base not oily.
I would rate Speculoos Cheesecake Graham Crumbs as 9/10 and Chocolate Malt Fudge Brownie as 6/10.

Curious about their local flavour like ondeh-ondeh or bandung? Look out for the other post in another time~

Cake Spade - Queen of Red Velvet

When I search for "the best cheese cake in Singapore", Cake Spade is always there on the list. Located in 83 Tanjong Pagar Road, Cake Spade is like a hidden gem. From the first time of arrival, I have been attracted by their exterior design, the pink-coloured wall, which is so different compared to other stores along the road😍 Then at the moment I step in, I can see that some spots are made for Instagram. But, too bad I didn't manage to take one cos I was just so excited to try their cakes.

This is actually my second time to the cafe after they have moved. The first time was when I was looking for the original taste of red velvet, so I tried their Pomegranate Red Velvet. Although previously the place was pretty small with only a few seats inside, I've got to say that it worth the trip down there. They sell variety of cakes and their Red Velvet is really the best in town in my opinion. I enjoyed every bite of its dense yet light texture and I think its dense texture is what make me addicted to their red velvet.

The next time I went there, they already modified the Red Velvet toppings from Pomegranate become crunched chocolate and I feel that its texture becomes a bit lighter. But it doesn't really matter for me cos what's matter most is the presence of that addicting dense texture.

I was also very curious when I looked at that name of "tofu cheesecake". The cheese layer has a solid and soft texture like a tofu. Then, on top of it is a fresh sliced strawberry inside a strawberry jelly. With that crumbly cracker base like the normal cheesecake, the tofu cheesecake is complete. This would be perfect for someone who doesn't like strong cheese flavour, but not for me since I prefer a cheesecake with strong cheese flavour.

Strawberry Tofu Cheesecake on the left and Spiced Carrot Cake on the right.

On the right of the picture is the Spiced Carrot Cake. To be honest, this is the second time I tried carrot cake since I am not a fan of it. But I am so curious about how good it is until it become one of the best carrot cake in Singapore. The light carrot sponge cake layered with cream cheese frosting is a perfect combination. In companion with the strong flavour of the spice, I feel that this is the best carrot cake that I have ever tried.

If I were give ratings for them, I would rate their Red Velvet 10/10, Tofu Cheesecake 7/10 and Spiced Carrot Cake 6.5/10.

The only thing is that they don't a self-service water station like usually provided in other cafes, so bring your water bottle along. Otherwise, you can also buy the small water bottle there with cake spade tag on it πŸ˜…πŸ˜™

Plus Eight Two

Opened by BTOB's Eun-kwang, this cafe was very popular among students ever since before it was opened. Plus Eight Two is a dessert cafe specializes in bingsu. Located across two school institutions, many students often go here for studying. Also, it has a very relaxed atmosphere which is good for studying or having a simple chat.

Upon entering, the scent of the freshly brewed coffee is the highlight which makes you "feel" the cafe ambiance. It has a wide space and a simple yet nice interior design. Also, it has a nice spot on the side with sofa chair which is nice for a group chat and to take a nice picture for Instagram 😁

But, I am actually going there to try their cakes as you might have expected.

I chose Red Velvet to sweeten the night πŸ˜†πŸ˜™

Their unique serving method is what makes it even Insta-worthy as they put the plate on top of a wooden frame. Compare to the one sold in the usual cake shop, this cake is a bit shorter. But, I love the cake texture which is moist with a rich flavor of red velvet. Also, they use a full cream cheese frosting which you can really taste since the first bite. I like that strong cheese flavor but I personally prefer a red velvet cake with a balanced cheese flavor, since it is not a cheesecake.

Even though the staff does not speak English very fluent, it doesn't really matter as they are friendly and nice.

Overall, I would rate their red velvet 8/10.
